About Us

Independent advice. Long-term relationships. No shortcuts.

Auro is built on years of trusted financial advice — same people, same values, elevated standard. Here's why we do it differently.

Why Auro.

One dedicated adviser/director plus two virtual assistants — you work directly with the adviser, supported by an efficient back office. Around 1,250 active clients across three advice areas: mortgage advice, personal risk insurance, and KiwiSaver / retirement & investment advice.
  • We have experience advising households through booms and downturns, delivered simply — no complex plans or bravado-based fee structures.
  • We've seen the common roadblocks to financial resilience, and the danger of relying on a single "vehicle" for retirement.

We also understand the Kiwi "tall poppy" narrative — that building wealth somehow makes you a bad person. Our view is the opposite: taking care of your family, your future, and becoming financially independent is responsible, not selfish.

What makes us different

  • Independent, always — we're not owned by a bank, a fund manager, or an insurer. No product targets, no preferred provider quotas.
  • We model, we don't guess — every client gets a real financial model, not a generic projection.
  • We stay — our average client relationship is [X] years. We review, adapt, and stay relevant as your life changes.

our process

Advice that goes the full distance.

We follow a five-step process. Every client goes through all five — because good advice isn't a single conversation, it's an ongoing relationship.
  • Discovery — We listen before we advise. No products mentioned.
  • Modelling — Your financial future, built in real numbers.
  • Strategy — One plan. Every piece connected.
  • Implementation — We do the work. You make the decisions.
  • Review — We stay with you. Your life doesn't stay still.

Who we work with.

We specialise in busy professional households who earn $250,000–$500,000 combined household income, are typically 35–50, and are on PAYE or shareholder salary in stable businesses. They want a great home and a solid retirement — not a ten-property empire.
  • Don't want to build a big property portfolio, or have been burned by downturns and don't want all their wealth tied to one asset class
  • Don't know where to start with other investments

If your income is strong but your time and energy are focused on your career, family, or business rather than managing your finances, you're our person.

The real concerns we solve.

Most high-income Kiwi households come to us with the same questions — usually some version of:
  • "We're nervous about taking on a much larger debt level."
  • "We want to know we'll still have money for lifestyle after this move."
  • "We're unsure property will keep growing in value like it has previously — should we think about other investments alongside?"
  • "We want to retain as much of the sale proceeds as possible, not watch it all be repaid to the bank."
  • "We care about the long-term performance of this purchase and our other assets, not just the next 12 months."

Our job is simple: help you buy well, keep living well, and still hit your long-term wealth target. Our advice is delivered so those questions are answered with numbers, not hope.

We work best with people who want to understand their finances — not just outsource them.

Our clients aren't necessarily wealthy. They're people who've decided to take their financial life seriously — and want an adviser who'll treat it the same way. We typically work with:

Our simple wealth path — without complexity.

It's not about fancy products or complex reports. It's about getting the basics right and doing them consistently:
  • Buy the right home, the right way — structure the lending so you keep flexibility and protect cash flow.
  • Protect the downside — personal risk insurance to cover major life events so one shock doesn't destroy decades of work.
  • Maximise KiwiSaver and core investments — use KiwiSaver properly so you're on track for multi-million dollar balances by 65, then layer additional investments.
  • Add simple, sensible investments — over time, move into diversified investments and, for some, one or two well-selected investment properties. Not a speculative empire.

No complicated schemes. No get-rich-quick strategies. Just a clear, executable plan.

The people you'll work with

Mike Willoughby

Founder

Mike Willoughby is the founder of Meta Financial Solutions, helping everyday New Zealanders build lasting wealth and financial wellbeing through clear, future-focused advice. After graduating at the top of his Business Management class at AUT, Mike went on to lead operations for a major corporate. There, he saw firsthand the difference expert, integrated financial advice could make. He founded Meta to bring that same clarity and direction to Kiwi families.

Mike takes a practical, human approach to advice, bringing insurance, KiwiSaver, lending and investments together into one cohesive strategy. By simplifying complexity and focusing on each client’s goals—not individual products—he helps people make confident decisions and build the future they want.
